Family of Deceased Briton: Improve Traffic in Azerbaijan

“Improve traffic in Azerbaijan,” the family of a British participant in the European Games, who died in a car accident in Baku last year, appealed to the Azerbaijan government and the President of Formula 1, Bernie Eccleston.

23-year-old Briton Mikach Maxwell-Milne worked for the European Olympic Games in Baku as a member of the production group. The car, in which he was returning from a night shift, collided with a minibus, according to Radio Azadlig.

The mother of Maxwell-Milne says the head of Formula 1 Eccleston and officials should conduct educational work on road safety.

Jennifer Maxwell-Milne said that she had heard in Baku driver's licenses are sold in the street. According to her, in this country a lot of work should be carried out to ensure the safety of those who travel to Azerbaijan.

The family refers to the recommendations of the Foreign Office, where it is said that most of the cars in the country are in poor condition and driving standards are violated. "Accidents often occur and the main reason is poor management of cars and permanent non-compliance with the traffic rules."

According to the WHO report of 2015, 10 per 100 thousand people in Azerbaijan are killed in accidents. In the UK, the figure is 2.9.

Mrs. Maxwell-Milne also wrote to the First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva, urging her to contribute to changes: "We call on Mr. Eccleston and those responsible for the safety of thousands of tourists, including fans of the competition Formula-1, to enhance road safety rules, taking into account the credibility and significance of sport.“

In the investigation against the driver of the minibus, Mikach’s parents are represented by the counsel Claire Campbell.  "This is a tragedy. The traffic accident killed a 23-year-old young man, talented, loved by his parents and sister, who won the authority in his career," said the lawyer. -0-
