Media Review December 27, 2018
The place of education in the development of the country, hindrances for the development of regions, and the water supply problems of residents are the leading topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about education and its role in society, calling education the engine of progress. The author emphasizes that President Ilham Aliyev issued orders concerning education in various periods. The article noted that from 2003 to 2018 over 3,200 schools were built or fundamentally repaired in the country. Recently, the practice of constructing mobile-type schools has appeared on the sites of emergency school buildings. 106 such schools were established for 6 thousand schoolchildren in 40 districts in 2017. At the end of this year, work will be completed on installing 137 such schools in 43 regions for 8,120 schoolchildren.
The newspaper Yeni Musavat writes about the socio-economic development of the regions and about the measures taken for this. In recent years, for example, agricultural parks and neighborhoods are created in the regions. The author, citing the Cabinet of Ministers, reports that so far 70 billion manat has been invested in the framework of the state social development programs of regions. Of the 45 agricultural parks, 18 are already operational, and 27 will start operating in 2019-20. As for the subsidy of the regions, in 2019 it is projected at 104,046,000 manat. In the coming year, 34 cities and districts will not be allocated a grant.
The website Oxu.az writes about the problem with water supply in the capital. It is about the village of Yeni Guneshli - Array D. The housing complex Chanlibel, which built a residential complex of 375 apartments, is not in conflict with Azersu, but with Azerishig, while the residents suffer. At the same time, this debt also depends on the residents themselves, as they do not pay utility costs in a timely manner. Azerishig claims the total debt for electricity is more than 20,000 manat, so the lights were turned off in the buildings. -0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
