More than 43,000 Pieces of Ammunition Collected from Explosion Area in Khizi
Baku / 24.01.18 / Turan: Over the past 116 days after the explosion in the warehouse in the army unit in the Khizi district, 25,532 units of unexploded ordnance, 18,531 shells and 101,231 kgs of explosives were found and collected in the adjacent territory. This is stated in the message of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
It should be recalled that on the morning of August 27, 2017, explosions of ammunition and shells intended for disposal occurred in the military unit of the Ministry of Defense in the Khizi region (70 km north of Baku). The Military Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan launched a criminal case under Articles 223.2 (violation of safety rules with explosives, which entailed grave consequences) and 342.2 (negligent attitude to the service, which entailed grave consequences) of the Criminal Code.
On January 23, the inspection of the territory around the military unit was continued. 81,298 unexploded remains of burnt shells and 526 kg of explosives were found and collected.
To date, in connection with this incident, 3,736,803 square meters (373.68 hectares) of the territory have been checked. In total, for 116 days ANAMA checked 12 houses, 46 homesteads, 16 farms, 45 cultivated areas, 13 pasture plots, 2 schools, 3 railway branches, 1 communication center, 1 television studio, 2 rural cemeteries, 1 water canal, 1 greenhouse, 1 military camp, sections of the Baku-Novorossiysk oil pipeline and the Baku-Rostov railway, economic facilities, etc. -03D06-

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
