On 14 October the Chairman of the Association of Azerbaijani Intelligentsia, filmmaker Eldaniz Guliyev was summoned to the Main Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (MDCOC) of the Interior Ministry, he told Turan. According to Guliyev, he received a call today, and was told to come to the MDCOC. When asked the reason he was told that "it's not a phone conversation." Guliyev has recently led the public committee to protect the rights of the former investigator prosecutor of Zardab region Rufat Safarov, sentenced to 9 years in prison on charges of taking bribes. Safarov was brought to justice after the resignation of the prosecutor's offices and the criticism of negative phenomena in law enforcement agencies. Guliyev held a press conference of the Committee to Protect the rights of Safarov. Prior to that, he got a call from the Metropolitan Police, and asked not to carry out this event. -06D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
