The Court of Appeal dismisses the appeal of T.Bagirzade
On 18 March the Baku Court of Appeal chaired by judge Jamal Ramazanov considered the complaint of Taleh Bagirzade, the leader of the "Muslim unity" Movement on the extension of detention term for another three months. The court dismissed the complaint, the lawyer Elchin Sadigov Bagirzade.
According to the lawyer, on March 18 also took place the confrotation of Bagirzade with the witness. "Due to the fact that there were no conditions for giving free testimony by the witness, and in connection with the previous facts of pressure on witnesses Taleh Bagirzade refused confrontation," the lawyer Sadigov wrote on his Facebook page. Sadigov also noted the continued violation of the rights of Bagirzade in jail, in particular, not providing an opportunity to use the right for telephone calls.
* Bagirzade together with a group of believers was detained during a special operation in the village of Nardaran on November 26, 2015, and was detained for four months. On March 7 arrest term was extended for another three months. Bagirzade is charged under 15 Articles of the Criminal Code, including an attempt to violent change of the constitutional system. Total of 68 people have been arrested in the case.-16B06-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
