The verdict to "Prisoners of Light"
Baku/19.08.17/Turan: A verdict was read to the five accused persons arrested for participating in the protest action against electricity cut-off in the settlements for IDPs from Djebrail region in Bilasuvar, a verdict was read out.GyulagaAlmamedov, IlkinIskenderov and Jalal Guliyev were sentenced to imprisonment on probation and released in the hall of the Jebrail regional court, which is temporarily located in the territory of Bilasuvarregion.UlviGuliyev and ZaurFeyruz were sentenced to 1.5 years of imprisonment, the lawyer of the accused ElchinSadigov said.According to him, after receiving the verdict defense will discuss with the connvict filing an appellate complaint.
On December 22, in Bilasuvar, a protest was held against electricity cut-offs in 11 settlements for IDPs due to consumer debt. The police brutally dispersed the action. At the same time, Jalal Guliyev, ZaurFeyruzlu, GyulagaAlmamedov were arrested. They were charged under the Articles 186.2.2 (intentional destruction or damage to property), 233 (violation of public order) and 315.2 (violence against a government representative) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. On the same charges, on December 24, two more people were arrested: UlviGuliyev and IlkinIskenderov.All five accused are recognized as political prisoners and classified as so-called "prisoners of light".
After the protest action, the authorities made concessions and granted a respite to pay back arrears for electricity, and in March 2017 all 11 settlements were gasified. -06D--
