Young Activist Invited to Temporary Detention Center and Fined
Baku / 24.02.18 / Turan: Young activist Dayanat Babayev has been fined 51 manat. He was accused of not obeying the lawful demand of a policeman. Turan was informed about this by the activist himself.
According to him, on February 24, he, together with the father of activist Tural Sadigli, who is in political emigration, and other activists went to the temporary detention facility of the Binagadi district. They wanted to know about the fate of the brother of T. Sadigli, arrested under the administrative order.
"I was invited to come in. I did not refuse and I was taken into a room. There was no rough treatment, but I was forced to wait for 25 minutes," the activist said. Then two unknown people in plainclothes held a preventive conversation with him.
"I was asked about various issues, about my connections with public activists and human rights activists, they told me about the inadmissibility of anti-state appeals and insults. They said that "you see what the result of such things is." They talked about political prisoners and asked me how and from where human rights activists receive money. I was told that the way I'm going is wrong and reminded about those activists who were arrested and then released. They told me about their news sites and the lack of opportunities. The talk lasted for about 40 minutes."
Then he was transferred to the 4th branch of the Binagadi police, where D. Babayev became aware that he had been brought to administrative responsibility.
"They submitted an administrative protocol to the office, as if I myself came to the investigator and did not obey the lawful demand of the police, breaking the silence." I was fined 51 manat under article 510.1 of the Administrative Offenses Code (disobeying the lawful demand of the police)."
Babayev said the administrative protocol is groundless.
Earlier, Dayanat Babayev was a member of the Popular Front Party. In 2013 he was convicted. Prior to this, in 2011-12, he was detained several times during various protests and was arrested on an administrative basis.
Last year, the European Court considered a complaint about his administrative arrest, deciding on the illegality of this arrest. According to the decision of the European Court, the government of Azerbaijan was fined for more than 10 thousand euros for the Babayev's arrest. -0-

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.
