Detentions started in Baku before protest in defence of Bakhtiyar Hajiyev
Baku/23.12.22/Turan: In the run-up to the protest action in defence of the arrested public activist Bakhtiar Hajiyev, the police started detaining its potential participants.
Thus, the chairman of the Khatai district branch of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan Faig Nagiyev was detained, said Rufat Safarov, head of the human rights organization "Line of Defense".
Moreover, freelance journalist Emil Maniyev was detained in front of the Baku court of appeal, where a complaint against Hajiyev was being considered. A bus with dozens of police officers is parked outside the court building.
The PPFA reported that several other activists have been detained.
It was not possible to get a comment from the Interior Ministry.
Recall that Bakhtiar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai district court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days. The defence appealed this decision and Hajiyev himself promised to go on an indefinite hunger strike if the court did not satisfy the appeal.
On 15 December, the court of appeal dismissed Hajiyev's complaint. -0-
