"Leviathan" is banned in Azerbaijan too
The Azerbaijani moviegoers will not see the cannot see the film "Leviathan" that has caused considerable controversy in Russia. According to Musa Akhundov, the Marketing Director for the network of cinemas Park Cinema, the firm-distributor banned screening of the film in Azerbaijan, reports the BBC. However, cinema Cinema 28 reported that the film will soon be screened.
"Leviathan", which tells the story of the struggle of a resident of a small provincial town (Alexei Serebryakov) with unscrupulous mayor (Roman Madyanov), has become one of the most renowned Russian films. Social drama Andrei Zvyagintsev reveals a great number of problems of modern Russian reality: corruption and arbitrariness of officials because of which ordinary people suffer. "Leviathan" has already won a prize at the Cannes Film Festival for best screenplay and American award "Golden Globe" in the nomination - "Best Foreign Language Film of 2014". The picture is also nominated for "Oscar".
In Russia, the film was screened from February 5, and immediately caused the anger of the Kremlin. As a result, the film screening in many cities and regions of Russia has been blocked.
The ban of the movie in Azerbaijan reminded the cancel of concerts of the rocker Andrew Makarevich in Baku last fall, who also irritated the Kremlin.—06D-
