Azerbaijani National IT Science Team "Fails" International Olympiad
The Azerbaijani national IT science team was not included in the list of recognized commands to the XXIV International Olympiad in Italy, held on 23-30 September. The students of Baku Private Turkish Lyceum Taher Alizadeh (scored 92 points), Rashid Gaziyev (71 points), Elmi Ahmedov (34 points) and Sanan Pashayev (16 points) in the individual competition took place below 200.
The teams of Russia and China won four gold medals. At the following locations are Romania and the United States (three gold and one bronze medals), Iran is in the 5th place with two silver and two bronze medals.
The first place in the individual competition was taken by Asian American Johnny Ho, who collected the maximum 600 points for the best and comprehensive solution to the six tasks. The second place was occupied by the multiple winner of IOI and other competitions for programmers, Belarusian Gennady Korotkevich (588 points). In the third place was Chinese Gu Hughes (525 points).
The competition was attended by 317 students from 82 countries.
In the next four years, the competition will take place in Australia, China, Kazakhstan and Russia.
The First International Olympiad in Informatics, which plays an important role in the development of education and educational technology innovations, was held in Bulgaria in 1989. Azerbaijan has participated in the Olympic Games since 1994. - 17D-
