Azerbaijani president: Another big power station could be possibly built in Baku
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev thinks it necessary to build new power stations in Baku.
“It is known how Azerbaijan is going to develop in coming ten years and there is a need in construction of new power stations,” said Azerbaijani President at yesterday’s conference devoted to the results of execution of the state program of socio-economic development of Baku and its suburbs from 2011 to 2013.”
Ilham Aliyev said that there are problems right now with supply of Baku with electric energy.
“Several power stations have been built in the country during the past several years. I can say that we have strengthened our energy potential. The industrial capacities of the stations built in the past dozens of years supply about 40% of our potential. If it not for construction of these stations, we would not have achieved a successful development of the country,” President added.
President also added that during the past ten years electric energy consumption in Azerbaijan increased, which is caused by growth of economy and industry and improvement of the citizens’ living standards.
Ilham Aliyev said that in the past time electric energy consumption in summer is almost the same as in winter, because in summer the population uses air conditions.
“However, in the future we will start construction of new stations. It is also necessary to envisage construction of sub-stations in Baku and in the regions as our successful development demands. The demand grows and the existing potential must exceed it,” President said.
President added that construction of a new big power station Shimal-2 is in progress in Baku now.
“Possibly, there will be need in construction of another big power station. We have been also working to upgrade the power lines,” Ilham Aliyev said.
