First Industrial District to Be Created
President Ilham Aliyev ordered on February 2 on the establishment of an industrial district (ID) in the Neftchala region (located 170 km south of Baku), under which a period of two months, the government will set aside 10 hectares of land.
The document notes that the territory will include the industrial non-oil sector and facility maintenance. The organization and regulation of the ID is mandated to the state-run Azerbaijan Investment Company. Priorities for goods produced in Neftchala ID will be identified with the participation of the Ministry of Economy and Industry (MEI).
Recall that on 8 October 2014 the President signed a decree "On the establishment and operation of industrial districts." The Cabinet of Ministers was instructed to prepare and approve the ID model policy within three months.
According to this document, ID is a territory, which has the necessary infrastructure for business activities of small and medium-sized enterprises for the production of goods and services. MEI is instructed to give full support to the participants of ID.
The document does not report why Neftchala has been selected for this. This area includes an oilfield department, and iodine-bromine factory and a fish factory. The population of the district is engaged mainly in agricultural production. 08D
