Installation of Electronic Water Meters Expensive
This year, the average price of water meters purchased in Turkey, with smart cards and a prepaid system, has decreased by 0.4% to $ 102.13 per device.
At the current rates the cost of one meter is equal to 436 m3 of water.
It is noteworthy that the search on the Internet showed that various foreign manufacturers offer analogues of the device for $ 30 - $ 60 apiece.
According to the State Customs Committee, in the first 9 months of this year 118,546 water meters equipped with prepaid smart cards were procured in Turkey. The total cost of the deliveries was $ 12.1 million.
The company MetLab Metroloji, Sistem ve Bilishim Teknolojileri Imalat Pazarlama Ithalat Ihracat Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited on its corporate website states that it has been engaged in the implementation of the order for the supply of water measuring devices for JSC Azersu since December 2013. The sum of the contract or the amount of the order is not disclosed.
In Turkey, the production of such devices is provided by a lot of companies. One of them, Elektromed now offers similar devices of 20 cm in diameter at 212 liras or $ 95.4.
214,000 water meters were procured in Turkey in 2013, which was appreciated by the parties of the contracts at $ 21,937,000.
According to JSC Azersu, in January-September of this year 119,000 smart card water meters were installed in Azerbaijan, including 112,000 at the population.
Since the beginning of the process (2012), new electronic water meters have been provided to 330,000 subscribers. The number of subscribers of this JSC belonging to the population amounted to 1,177,236 as of January 1, 2014. But not all of them are provided even with mechanical counters, though according to the state program proclaimed in the spring of 2006, the installation of water meters should have been completed in 3 years. On October 1, 2014 only 55.6% (691,723) of the subscribers were provided with water-metering devices.
From 1 February 2011 the rate of 1 m3 of water supplied to the population is 0.30 AZN for large cities and 0.25 manat for other regions. Water meters are set for them for free. The only exceptions are those living in their own private residences as well as commercial and other consumer groups. --08B-

Azerbaijan's financial standing continues to strengthen as the country's foreign currency reserves have surged to $71 billion as of January 1, 2025, according to the Ministry of Finance. This figure, which includes reserves held by the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) and the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), far exceeds the nation's external debt, which stands at a fraction of its reserves, specifically nearly 14 times less. This robust reserve position reflects Azerbaijan's fiscal stability and the government’s strategic economic management.
