Inflation`s attack on low-interest rates, the counter-attack of “constitutional hijab” on “legal hijab”
No, this is beyond the issue of stubbornness. If it is not, the interest policy, which makes havoc on the macroeconomic balances and increases the inflationary pressure in the market every day, would be abandoned at a certain point. The head of state, Erdoğan, believes that “low-interest rates” are the best way to fight inflation, and he personally announced that there is no force that would change his opinion: "As long as this brother of yours is in this position, the interest rate will continue decreasing every day, every week, every moment. Let no one even dare to think about teaching us wisdom in this matter." Therefore, one should never think that the statement of the press spokesman of the main opposition Republican People's Party, "Erdoğan is the cause, inflation is the result", will be taken into account by the leader of the ruling party and the head of state.
It is not difficult to see that two reasons lie behind his policy of “continuously lowering interest rates” when we take into account that all state organizations, including those responsible for the economy, are under the unconditional control of Mr. Erdoğan. The first of those reasons is that the government has been working with construction companies to a large extent since 2011, and the second is that he was elected president for the second time on June 24, 2018, and pressed the button for a complete change of the governance system on July 9.
At the stage after four years, there is no counter force to make Mr. Erdoğan give up the formula, “The only way to fight inflation is to keep interest rates at a low level”, which he knows for certain. With the instruction of Mr. Erdoğan, the Central Bank can print as much unbacked money as it wants, open the taps of loans for various purposes as it wants, and take every necessary step to find debt from inside and outside without hesitation. No matter how much the opposition parties do not accept it, the reality is that it is necessary to approach the processes coldly. As the head of state talks about lowering interest rates every hour, every day, every month, inflation is increasing every hour, every day, every month.
However, since Mr. Erdoğan has said that he will not take a step back from this case, there is no other choice but to wait for the interest rate to beat inflation or inflation to beat the interest rate. "In this mood and conditions", the main opposition leader announced that they would bring a bill to the parliament and asked for the support of the government for the bill to become law: now the leader of the party that established the secular republic is trying to use the same weapon against a party that came to power alone 20 years ago by bringing the hijab to the political market. Can it be considered ironic? Tragically or ironically, after 20 years, Turkish politics is again occupied by the headscarf issue. CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's proposal of “full freedom for the headscarf”, which he wanted to “legalize” unexpectedly, is answered by the leader and head of state of the party that came to power 20 years ago, using the same card skillfully, with the counter-proposal, “It should be included in the Constitution.”
When examining the root of this unexpected proposal of the main opposition leader, it is revealed that the ruling party MPs, who traveled throughout Anatolia during the summer, propagated to kerchiefed women, "If the CHP comes to power, they will make all of you remove your headscarves" and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu demanded “legal freedom of headscarf” against this propaganda of the government.
Will this demand make the ruling party say, "I wanted a lover, God granted"? Or will it upset the mood of Mr. Erdoğan, who “has made the most of hijab” in all periods of his political and public administration life without exception? It will take time to see that.
However, on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, the fact that the opposition, which defends secularism with a government that is too sensitive to religious rules, entered the race with "Complete freedom for the headscarf!" created an interesting situation for everyone.
While "Low-interest rates are always fueling inflation" in the country does not bother the ruling party at all, what important issues of foreign policy can the main opposition throw into the election field with the slogan "Legal freedom for the headscarf!"?
Kılıçdaroğlu, the author of the demand "Legal freedom for the headscarf!", went to the United States on Sunday.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who demands "Constitutional freedom for the headscarf!", was received by President Bush in the White House in December 2002. Later, his political ban was lifted, elections were renewed in Siirt province, and the politician who remained in power for a longer time than Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was elected as an MP and became the head of the government...
What do you think, after 20 years, is there a period of "counter-attack of headscarf freedom"?
