Azerbaijan-Armenia: U.S. Urges 'Direct Dialog' For Lasting Peace
Washington/27.03.23/Turan: The United States is concerned over the latest situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and urges direct dialogue for lasting peace, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports from the State Department.
"Assistant Secretary [of State] Karen Donfried spoke with foreign minister [Jeyhun] Bayramov this morning, and expressed concern over Azerbaijani military movements. She emphasized the U.S.' commitment to Armenia-Azerbaijan peace negotiations," principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel told TURAN's correspondent during a daily press briefing.
"As the Secretary [of State] has also spoken about this quite frequently, direct dialog is key to resolving this issue and reaching lasting peace," Patel said, adding, "there is not a military solution to this conflict."
He went on to conclude: "We'll continue to facilitate discussions between Armenia and Azerbaijan bilaterally, as well as with partners, and as well as throughout multilateral organizations as well."
