IRFS: Worlds Exhibitions Should Not Be Held Where Human Rights Are Violated
Baku / 21.11.18 / Turan: The Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) drew attention to human rights problems in Azerbaijan on the eve of the November 23 meeting of the General Assembly of the International Exhibition Bureau in Paris, which will select the city where the World Expo-2025 will be held.
Baku, Japanese Osaka and Russian Yekaterinburg have remained in the short list of bidders for the exhibition. Delegations from 170 countries will make the final choice.
The Director of the IRFS, Emin Huseynov, during a press conference in Paris on November 20 focused on problems with human rights in Azerbaijan. He called irony the declaration of human development the motto of the exhibition by Baku, while the country violates human rights and has high levels of corruption.
In his opinion, the holding of Expo 2025 will be used by the authorities for self-promotion.
IRFS calls for the active involvement of civil society in the organization of international exhibitions in order to ensure transparency and accountability. -06D-
