One of the reasons of MI-17 crash could be failure of one of the engines - experts
Baku/01.12.21/Turan: One of the probable reasons of the crash of MI-17 helicopter in Khyzy region on November 30 could be the failure of one of the engines. This opinion was expressed by an expert in the aircraft operation during his conversation with the Turan correspondent.
It has to be added that the engine failure causes serious problems when landing. In this case, the situation was complicated by the fact that the helicopter was almost filled with personnel. The overload just made steering more difficult which was also helped by the strong wind. Together, these factors could have led to the crash.
Is it possible to identify possible engine malfunctions before the flight? Asked about this, the expert answered that the malfunction could have occurred suddenly during the flight.
According to him, any aircraft undergoes a technical check before the flight, and the pilot personally inspects and accepts the machine. All these are recorded in a special logbook.
How good is it to fly in the wind? Answering this question, the expert said that it is not advisable to take off at wind speeds over 25 meters per second, though some helicopters are capable of taking off and landing even in winds of 30 meters per second.
In Sangachal, where the helicopter took off, there might have been one wind speed but in the landing area it was different. The range is located near Mt. Beshbarmak where sudden gusts of wind are frequent, causing whirlwinds. Judging by the video posted on the social network, the helicopter was falling in a vortex and burst into flames on the ground.
Note that the expert considers the presence of 19 people on board as normal. This type of helicopter could carry 26 people.
The helicopter was flying to a place of training flights and there were not only troops on board but an auxiliary group as well- a doctor and other specialists. After the helicopter landed, it was supposed to take to the air for combat training flights.
It will be possible to clarify the reasons of the crash after reading the data on onboard recorders.-06D-
