Baku / 30.07.18 / Turan: The students" inaugural campaign in Azerbaijan has reached the home stretch. From July 30, the selection of specialties for applicants who successfully passed examinations in higher and secondary special educational institutions begins. This process will last until August 13.
As the head of the State Examination Center (SEC), Maleyka Abbaszadeh, said at today's press conference, 74,438 applicants for I-IV groups took part in the spring and summer examinations. But 91,498 people were admitted to the qualifying competition, including the entrants of the V group of specialties. This year 45,159 planned places were allocated for new bachelors in the country's universities, which is 2,303 places or 5.37% higher than last year's figure.
According to the current rules, applicants who have scored at least 200 points and a relative score of at least 10 points for each subject (with the exception of any one subject) can participate in the competition. For vacant seats on state order for the I and IV groups of specialties you need to score at least 250 points, and the relative score for each subject must be at least 10.
In the competition for the II and III groups of specialties, applicants who score at least 200 points and a relative score of at least 10 points for each subject (with the exception of any one subject) can participate in the contest. For vacant seats on state order, it is necessary to score at least 300 points, and the relative score for each subject must be at least 10.
However, there are specialties for which the entry qualification is only 150 points. This is Soil Science and Rural Chemistry, Forestry, Agronomy, Melioration Engineer, Transport Engineer and Transport Manager, Timber Technology Engineer, Reusable Technology Engineer, Marketing, Tourism and Hotel Business, Veterinary Science, and Museum Business.
The innovation of the current campaign is that applicants can choose up to 15 specialty codes at once for two different groups, if, of course, they took part in spring and summer testing in different groups.
What is the purpose of the innovation? According to Abbaszadeh, this option raises the chances of the entrants to enter the university, giving them confidence in success. However, to gain entrance scores and higher ones is half the battle. The main thing is to correctly assess your chance and make the right decision, which, unfortunately, not everyone can do. At this stage it is important to give the right advice to the young people, which even their parents cannot always cope with.
In order to help the children in this situation, the SEC organized consulting centers in Baku (in the University of Azerbaijan and West-Caspian University) and in the regions. Experts of the centers will provide visitors with information on the number of places for various specialties in various universities, the number of applicants for these places, and approximate passing points. This information will help applicants to assess their chances and make a rational decision. -0-
