Media Review April 9, 2019

The results of social reforms carried out in the country, revision of the gas and electricity limit for the population, and expert opinion on the application of export duties are the leading topics of today's media.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the ongoing social reforms to improve the protection of the population. It is about raising wages, pensions, and the size of the minimum wage. In total, over the last period wages have increased by 7 times, pensions - 9 times, and the minimum wage - 6.5 times.

The increase in the minimum labor pension has affected 223 thousand pensioners, including 140 thousand disabled people.

The February decree on raising the minimum wage by 30% touched 450 thousand people in the public sector and 150 thousand in the private sector. However, the goal of the state is to raise the minimum wage to 60% of the average wage in the country.

The website Modern.az is discussing with MP Vahid Ahmedov a proposal to revise the gas and electricity limit for the population.

Only 3 months have passed since the beginning of 2019, and the limit of 1,700 cubic meters has already been exhausted, and concern about this is easy to be seen in social networks. The MP noted that in this regard, he receives constant complaints, as people do not manage to pay for their gas.

The MP believes that this restriction should be revised. The Parliament has already raised this topic, but the government is not in a hurry to respond.

The limit on light and gas was introduced in 2016. The consumer pays 7 gapik within the limit of 300 kilowatt hours, and after this limit, he pays 11 gapik per kW / h.

The newspaper Yeni Musavat writes about potato and onion crises. The government has imposed a tax on the export of these vegetables, and the farmers of the Jalilabad region have protested against this because it harms them.

The introduction of duties was necessary, since similar measures were introduced in neighboring countries.

Today, potatoes and onions have risen in price to 1.60 - 2 manat per 1 kg.

Until April 30 for each kilogram of export potatoes the duty will be 1 dollar, and until May 31 for each 1 kg of onion the duty will be 2 dollars.
