Baku/14.01.22/Turan: Convicted editor Polad Aslanov continues his hunger strike for the 9th day in the first-aid post of jail N1,  reported his wife Gulmira Aslanova, who visited him on Friday. “According to the rules, Polad was not supposed to date this month. However, the head of the  jail granted my request for a meeting, taking into account Polad's  health,” Aslanova said.

According to her, the administration of the  jail asked her to persuade her husband to end the hunger strike due to health risks. “But Polad is categorically against it. He immediately told me not to persuade him to stop the action. At the same time, he agreed not to go on a dry hunger strike. Now he only drinks water,” Aslanova said.

Polad said that after a visit by the representatives of the Ombudsman, they put things in order in the ward and removed the mentally deranged neighbor. “At Polad's request, the Ombudsman's representatives also met with two other prisoners who were pressured for communicating with him.

Therefore, Polad asked to convey gratitude for this to the Ombudsman. This is the only structure whose representatives react to his hunger strikes. Representatives of the Red Cross also visited Polad on the day of the arrival of the ombudsman officer,” Aslanova said.  Polad has constant dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath. However, he continues his hunger strike demanding a review of the case, said Aslanova.  She said that the Supreme Court had finally set a date for the consideration of his cassation complaint - it would be February 3 under the chairmanship of Hafiz Nasibov.

* The editor of xeberman.com, Polad Aslanov, was sentenced on November 16, 2019 to 16 years in prison on charges of treason in favor of Iran. The Reporters Without Borders organization and other human rights structures called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release Polad Aslanov. Since January 6, he has been on a hunger strike demanding a review of his case and speeding up the consideration of the cassation complaint in the Supreme Court.—06B-
