Press Review 04/20/2016

The social situation in the country, dissatisfaction with the banks, the implementation of economic reforms, and Russia's attitude to the Karabakh conflict are the leading topics of today's press.

The official newspaper Azerbaijan, on the eve of the VII Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations in Baku, published an article titled From the Clash of Civilizations to Active Cooperation. The article regards the arrangement of the forum in Baku as an exceptional role of Azerbaijan in cooperation of civilizations.

The Azadlig published experts' opinions on the economic situation in the country. Nemat Aliyev believes that trading networks will be forced to stop work after the next price hike and the bosses of trading networks openly talk about that.

In the current situation we need to lower taxes. If there is a price increase, it will hit the population. This will be followed by freezing social, economic and infrastructure projects, the expert said.

The economist Samir Aliyev believes that against this background we need to develop local production, reducing dependence on imports, and to reduce the VAT amount.

The Echo cites the opinion of an expert Akram Hasanov about the need to adjust the interest payments from loans. Under the Civil Code, banks should receive loan payments once a year. However, our banks do not comply with it, and people pay a much larger amount.

The Novoye Vremya wrote that the leaders of several supermarkets appealed to the Minister of Economic development Shahin Mustafayev about the intolerable working conditions.

The newspaper also writes about the creation of the Board of Appeal to address complaints from entrepreneurs, but the Board still has not displayed itself. The article refers to the need of operational management in the country, as well as healthy competition. For the development of the economy it is necessary to modernize the country's political system, without which it is impossible to arrange radical reforms.

The Bizim Yol cites the opinion of the political scientist Arastun Orujlu about Russia's position in the Karabakh conflict. He believes that Russia has never made concrete steps to resolve the Karabakh conflict, since it is not in the interests of the Russian Federation. Putin only once initiated a meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents in Sochi in 2014.  –0---
