Baku / 20.06.17 / Turan: On June 20, the Supreme Court presided over by Farhad Kerimov reviewed the cassation appeal of the youth activist Bayram Mammadov on his verdict. The activist in Prison No. 13 was not present at the trial.
According to the lawyer Elchin Sadigov, the defense petitioned for an acquittal, citing exculpatory grounds in the criminal case.
The lawyer noted that during the detention Bayram's rights were grossly violated. In addition, the courts of previous instances used evidence obtained illegally.
Nevertheless, the Supreme Court rejected the cassation of Bayram Mammadov, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
The lawyer said Mammadov's complaint will be sent to the European Court of Human Rights.
It should be reminded that Bayram Mammadov and Giyas Ibrahimov were arrested on the far-fetched charge of drug trafficking. The real reason for the arrest was the political slogans written by the activists on the monument to former President Heydar Aliyev on May 10, 2016.
Both activists are recognized as political prisoners. -16D-
