The court leaves Thale Bagirzade in custody
Today the Nasimi District Court under the chairmanship of Shalala Hasanova considered a motion to change the measure of restraint to the leader of the "Muslim unity" Movement Thale Bagirzade on house arrest. The lawyer Elchin Sadigov published on Facebook that Bagirzade told the court: "even under the arrest I feel very free. The main goal of our struggle is the enthronement of democracy, human rights, provision of free and prosperous life. We want no one be persecuted for beliefs, the realization of the freedom of peaceful assembly and expression."
Addressing the judge, he said: "We are fighting also for your freedom, we want you to make decisions based not on the instructions, but on the inner conviction." The court dismissed the petition, and the decision will be appealed in the Court of Appeal, the lawyer said.
* Bagirzade together with a group of believers was detained during a special operation in the village of Nardaran on November 26, 2015, and was arrested for four months. He was charged under 15 Articles of the Criminal Code, including an attempt to violent change of the constitutional system. Total in this case were arrested 68 people. -16B06-
