The protest at the trial in the «case of Nardaran»

Baku/23.09.16/Turan: The hearing in the "Nardaran case" today was interrupted due to the protest actions of the accused, who demanded to return Abbas Huseynov, the deputy chairman of the  "Muslim unity" Movement evicted from the  court hall. The judge took this decision on September 22 after Huseynov spat  in a police officer who made offensive attack against women wearing the hijab.

On Friday, at the beginning of the meeting the lawyers asked to provide Huseynov’s coming to the court as witnesses. However, the presiding judge Alovsat Abbasov said that at the current stage  there is no need in  the involvement  of Huseynov. The judge also suggested that Huseynov write a written remorse for his action. After that, the accused asked for time to consult with lawyers. Further on the process was suspended, after which the lawyers have put forward a motion to provide Huseynov's participation in the trial.

It was noted that otherwise, the accused called on their lawyers  not to participate in the examination of witnesses.  The prosecutor Nasib Bayramov  opposed the applications. After a short break Abbasov judge rejected the petition of the meeting.

Then the leader of the "Muslim unity" Movement  Thale Bagirzade addressing the judge asked: "Who will be Ilham Aliyev after the referendum of September  26 - the king or shah?". After him, other accused began chanting slogans "Freedom!", "Resign!". Judges failing to stop the protest, said  they will  complain about the lawyers to the Bar. The  trial will continue on 28 September.
