The suit of Anar Mammadli in connection with misappropriation of his award
Baku/23.04.18/Turan: Anar Mammadli, the head of the Elections Monitoring and Democracy Center (EMDC) has not yet received the monetary prize of the PACE named after Vaclav Havel, awarded in September 2014, in the amount of 60 thousand euros. He wrote about this on his Facebook page. At that time he was in custody on a criminal case against him. By this time many of Mamedli's associates were in prison, including his deputy Bashir Suleymanly.
In that situation, his former colleague Nahid Ismailov used this situation and deceived the confidence of Mammadli"s father.
Thus, Ismayilov convinced Mammadli"s father that money should be collected in PACE, but since transferring money to Baku is dangerous, he persuaded to transfer money to an account in Germany, and then appropriated the money.
After the release of Mammadli in March 2017, Ismailov did everything he could to repay the money, but later admitted that he had "spent" them, promising to return it by September.
After that, the money was not returned, Mammadli filed a lawsuit in the Sabail District Court of Baku. However, to this day, Ismayilov has never appeared at court hearings. Despite the fact that Mammadli submitted the necessary documents to the court, including those received from the PACE.
Mammadli believes that the court delays the decision deliberately, because of his political position. "I'm worried about moral side than material, therefore I will fight until the end of the court decision," Mammadli writes. -06B-

The closure of Azerbaijan's land borders was discussed during the parliamentary session on November 25. While the government’s decision cites the coronavirus pandemic as the main reason—despite the World Health Organization declaring its end last year—Zahid Oruj, Chair of the Human Rights Committee in the Milli Majlis, pointed to other factors. He stated, "Opening the borders could result in an influx of hundreds of thousands of non-Azerbaijani refugees due to the Russia-Ukraine war. Additionally, in Iran, many are prepared to cross into Azerbaijan to safeguard their lives and assets amid military strikes. Such waves of refugees could lead to humanitarian, social, and cultural clashes that may threaten political stability."
