In July, prices of construction materials in Baku rose by an average of 3%. The reason for that was information about the tension in Russia and Ukraine. The total market for a quarter is formed by metal products and wood from these countries, that is why such a reaction. Many previous consignment goods are in warehouses, so the sellers pre-insure possible losses due to buyers. By the way, August brought even greater appreciation of what we shall report in the next review.
Imported wood rose in July by 4%, iron pipes - 2%, edged boards - 4.5%, metal coating - 2%, channel - 1.5%, and galvanized sheets - 2.6%.
More than half of the market (52%) is the share of local production. According to the State Statistics Committee report in January - July, local manufacturers of building materials brought the volume to 249.2 million AZN (+22.6% as of 1 August last year). Production of construction of cement was approximately 1.66 million tons (+ 42.1%). Furthermore, enterprises produced 63.8 thousand tons of plaster (minus 46.1%), more than 1 million tons of finished concrete mixture (+26.6%) and 172.9 thousand tons of asphalt (minus 20%). -17D-

On 21 December, Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit met with Azerbaijani Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev at the Russian Ministry of Transport.

Hundreds of trucks are stuck in the Kazakh port of Kuryk, facing delays for several days while waiting for ferry transport to Azerbaijan, the Azakhstan portal reports lada.kz. The backlog is due to a combination of reduced ferry availability, adverse weather conditions, and an influx of cargo rerouted because of expanded sanctions on Russia.

While the global economy faces persistent challenges, trade between China and Azerbaijan has defied downward trends, demonstrating significant growth. According to official statistics from Azerbaijan, bilateral trade in 2023 reached 3.1 billion US dollars. In just the first ten months of 2024, trade volume increased by 17.1% year-on-year, reaching 3.02 billion US dollars, putting the annual trade figure on track to hit a record high.
