Gubad Ibadoglu Shows Way to Lower Prices

Importers of many essential commodities sell them in Azerbaijan repeatedly and significantly more expensively than their cost. The leader of the Movement for Democracy and Prosperity Gubad Ibadoglu wrote this on his Facebook page.

Thus, eggs are sold by 418 percent more expensively than the cost of their shipping, chicken - by 276 percent, rice - by 253 percent, soap - by 234 percent, cheese - by 230 percent, vegetable oil - by 196 percent, beef - by 159 per cent, tea - by 142 percent, detergents - by 121 per cent, butter - by 103 percent, macaroni - by 97 per cent, and sugar - by 2 times more expensively.

Ibadoglu notes that the elimination of monopolies and bribes in the import permits may significantly reduce consumer prices.

In this case, Ibadoglu used the State Statistics Committee data, in particular its publications Foreign Trade and Price Statistics.

According to Ibadoglu, the State Service for Antimonopoly Policy and Consumer Protection should monitor not only the trade network, but also the import process.

This agency must publish monthly comparative tables of import and retail prices.

In the view of Ibadoglu, the high prices are due to the monopoly and bribery at customs and extortion of informal fees. This ultimately greatly increases the production costs. -03D-
