Campaign on social networks calling for the release of political prisoners
Baku / 07.03.19 / Turan: A campaign under the hashtag # hamısınıazadet #freethemall ("Free All") has been launched in social networks, demanding the release of political prisoners of Azerbaijan.
The campaign was initiated by a group of activists in Azerbaijan and abroad, one of its co-authors, the head of the Human Rights Club Rasul Jafarov told Turan.
"We started this campaign taking into account the recent events and steps of the authorities. We believe that these steps should be consistent. In addition, traditionally in March there is a pardon or amnesty. We want another such initiative to affect all political prisoners. In past years, this concerned only 3-5 political prisoners," explained Jafarov.
The goal of the campaign is a cardinal solution to the problem of political prisoners. According to him, the unity of citizens in the protection of the blogger Mehman Huseynov, the last steps of the government give rise to hope for the release of all other political prisoners.
Jafarov expressed the opinion that recently the authorities began to take into account public opinion, and the presidential administration and law enforcement agencies closely monitor social networks.
The campaign began on March 6th. Anyone can take part in it. The number of campaign participants is steadily increasing.
