Considering an appeal of Khadija Ismayilova
The Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) appointed a preliminary hearing on the complaint of journalist Khadija Ismayilova at 14:30 on October 15, told the lawyer Fakhraddin Mehdiyev. According to him, the case will be considered partly by judges, chaired by Ilgar Murguzova. Protection intends to seek full acquittal of Ismailova on all points, said Mehdiyev. He recalled that the trial court had acquitted Ismayilova under the Article "incitement to suicide".
The Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced on September 1 the famous investigative journalist Khadija Ismailova to 7.5 years in prison, found her guilty of embezzling, illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. She was justified under Article 125 (bringing to suicide.)
Local and international human rights organizations believe that criminal charges are far-fetched, and related to her journalistic investigations of corruption in the higher echelons of power. -06D-
