A resident of Nakhichevan, small businessman Nazim Mahmudov November 15 was subjected to pressure and humiliation at the Sadarak customs, on his return from Turkey.
According to the regional correspondent of Turan, who referred to a member of Mahmudov’s family, a senior customs officer demanded a bribe for 4 engines used in household refrigerators. On this Mahmudov said that the old engines cost a penny, and the head of state issued a decree that allows goods to be brought up to 10 thousand dollars.
In response, a customs officer accused Mahmudov of violating the regime and insulting the staff and made the appropriate protocol. Then Mahmudov was detained and taken away in an unknown direction.
His family members appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Nakhchivan, where it was stated that there is no Mahmudov there. No other authority, including the Customs Committee, answered the question about the whereabouts of the local resident.

November 8 is celebrated as Victory Day in Azerbaijan. In 2020, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity through a 44-day war and a one-day military operation in 2023. Although a ceasefire declaration was signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan has yet to be signed, even four years later.
