Lawyer's Letters Still "Disappear"
Baku / 07.16.19 / Turan: The complaints to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) continue to "disappear".
Attorney Asabali Mustafayev said that letters sent to Strasbourg to the European Court of Human Rights through the Azerpocht LLC state postal company disappear every month. Despite the fact that the post office acknowledges the disappearance of letters, it takes no action, and the two complaints that the lawyer sent in May disappeared.
According to Mustafayev, if earlier it was possible to contact Azerpocht and talk about the problem, now it"s impossible to get information.
"I have been sending letters to the European Court for 10-15 years, postal workers have city numbers, and I contacted them when problems arose. Now these numbers do not work, but it"s impossible to get to the "hot line". They do not respond to e-mail," said the lawyer.
According to the lawyer, Azerpocht responds to requests for lost letters, only sent by mail. "It makes work difficult. Moreover, the request should be sent from the postal address. What reforms are we talking about?" the lawyer added.
Azerpocht confirmed to the agency Turan that the company responds only to written requests for lost mail, but could not explain what rules this procedure is regulated by. The representative of Azerpocht added that if the applicant is problematic to visit the postal service office, the request may be sent to the company's website. The LLC also confirmed the disappearance of letters.
Earlier, in response to a question from Azadlig Radio regarding a similar complaint, AzerPost noted that a similar case could arise in any country.
"In any country there may be losses. A parcel may be lost. This is happening in America and in France. This is not unexpected," said AzerPost member.
None of the official institutions confirms the intentional loss of mail sent to the European Court of Human Rights.
However, earlier opposition politicians Murad Adilov and Nemat Panahly, journalists Afgan Mukhtarly and Seymour Hazi and a young activist Bayram Mammadov declared intentional loss of complaints to the European Court. -0-
