Political emigrant Vidadi Iskenderli attacked in France
Baku/17.06.22/Turan: Azerbaijani political emigrant Vidadi Iskenderli, known for his harsh criticism of the Azerbaijani authorities in social networks, was attacked in the evening of June 16 in the French city of Mulhouse.
"Closer to midnight, when I was entering my office several people attacked me. They broke the windows of the office. I thought they were people of Arab origin. They had firearms and knives in their hands. They stabbed me in the back and cut my hands," Iskenderli wrote on his Facebook page.
Going live on air, he showed his wounds and turned to the police. According to Iskenderli, he recognized one of the attackers and believes that the Azerbaijani authorities were behind the attack.
Ganimat Zahid, editor of the Internet resource Azerbaijan-Saaty, said French police had opened a criminal investigation into the incident.
"The attackers opened fire on Iskenderli's apartment. Police found a shell casing. Iskenderli wounded several attackers with a knife in self-defense," Zahidov said.
*Iskenderli was subjected to administrative and criminal arrests in Azerbaijan. In 2011 he was sentenced to 3.5 years of imprisonment on charges of interference in the work of the electoral commissions in the 2010 parliamentary elections.
Iskenderli himself stated that as a parliamentary candidate he had exposed falsifications in his constituency. After his arrest, he was declared a political prisoner.
In 2015, Iskenderli emigrated to France.-03B06-
