Eynulla Fatullayev calls on Human Rights Defenders to consider the violation of prisoners rights
: Imprisoned journalist Eynulla Fatullayev made a statement regarding ill-treatment in prisons. He drew attention to the arbitrariness and "chaos" in the places of detention.
"A country in which despotism and lawlessness, and the sentences judges-forgers prosper, a convicted people are unable to enjoy the rules of civilized modern European Penitentiary System. In a place of detention not-free citizen of Azerbaijan becomes a slave. A convicted can be beaten, robbed, humiliated, and subjected to inhuman treatment," the statement says.
Public Committee, as well as human rights defenders permanently monitors places of detention, but usually they act from a position of authorities. "This structure has a decorative nature, imitates monitoring, and inadequately responds to violations in prisons. The structure uses its public mission for personal purposes, though their reports must reflect the true situation in prisons," Fatullayev wrote.
On the occasion of anniversary of provocation against him connected with heroin, the journalist has sent a complaint to the Garadagh Court against the administration of the colony № 12.
"I'm not naive and know in advance that my complaint will not be satisfied. However, my goal Is to reach the European Court and to punish the Penitentiary Institution for the fact that during the two years I have been deprived of elementary rights. At the same time I want to launch a public debate about the situation in the places of detention, inhuman treatment, tortures and injustice which the prisoners face every day. I invite the human rights defenders, as Intigam Aliyev, Arzu Abdullayeva, Matlab Mutallimli and other valiant defenders to join the public discussion," the statement reads.
