Azerbaijani Foreign Minister�s Visit to Ethiopia Continues

Baku / 10.11.17 / Turan: Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, as part of his visit to Ethiopia, met with the Commissioner of the African Union on Peace and Security, Smail Sharga.

During the meeting, Mammadyarov informed the interlocutor that during the period of the existence of Azerbaijan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2012-2013, special attention was paid to the issues of peace and security on the African continent, and also spoke about the contribution to ensuring peace and security at the regional and international level.

Mammadyarov noted the great importance attached to bilateral and multilateral relations with African countries. For Azerbaijan's cooperation with these countries, there are ample opportunities in the context of South-South cooperation.

Commissioner Sharga called this visit a contribution to the dialogue and cooperation between Azerbaijan and the African Union. The meeting spoke about the importance of continuing the dialogue and consultations, and the implementation of mutual visits of delegations.

Recall that the African Union includes 54 African countries. The Union became the legal successor of African Unity. The African Union was established in July 2002. In 2011, Azerbaijan acquired observer status in this organization.

Elmar Mammadyarov has been on a visit to Ethiopia since November 8. During the visit, he has met with the country's President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, etc. -0-
