Elmar Mammadyarov's Tour of Latin America
Baku / 25.03.19 / Turan: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov last week toured South American countries, visiting Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. In addition to bilateral meetings, the Minister participated in the UN High-Level Conference on South-South Cooperation in Buenos Aires.
At a meeting with his Argentinean colleague Jorge Fori, Mammadyarov said that developing countries are facing development challenges, so the South-South platform contributes to the discussion of experiences and national development strategies.
During his visit to Paraguay, Mammadyarov held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of this country, Alberto Castiglioni. The parties signed an agreement "On the mutual elimination of visa requirements for persons with diplomatic and official passports." The parties also expressed a general intention to create the Azerbaijan-Paraguay Chamber of Commerce.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister informed his colleague about the current state of the negotiation process on the Karabakh conflict. Mammadyarov praised the adoption of the statement by the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress of Paraguay, condemning the Khojaly genocide.
During his visit to Uruguay, Mammadyarov met with the Foreign Minister of this country, Rodolfo Nin Novoa.
Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan entered the top five oil exporters to Uruguay last year, which was a good example of the development of bilateral trade relations. Nin Novoa stressed that his country intends to further deepen relations with Azerbaijan.
Mammadyarov also met with the Vice President of Uruguay, the Chairwoman of the Senate Lucia Topolanski, and then Cecilia Bottino, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Uruguay.
Mammadyarov informed the interlocutors about the Karabakh conflict, noting that the provocative activities of the Armenian communities in various countries have a negative impact on the peaceful resolution of the conflict.
The leaders and officials of the Parliament of Uruguay noted that they are supporters of resolving conflicts under international law.
During his visit to Chile, Mammadyarov held talks with the Foreign Minister of this country and members of the National Congress. Mammadyarov thanked the Chamber of Deputies of Chile for supporting the fair position of Azerbaijan on the Karabakh conflict, and in particular, recognition of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that Mammadyarov"s tour of Latin America had a clearly defined focus on minimizing the influence of strong Armenian Diasporas in this region, seeking to influence the policies of their countries in the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. -06D-
