Le Monde: Aliyev and Sargsyan Spoke Warmly in Paris
On October 28 Le Monde published a cool article on the outcome of the meeting of the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Paris
"The sworn enemies, Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev suddenly became comrades. They were very close, talking to each other in a friendly manner," said a French diplomat, who was present at the meeting, not hiding his surprise from such a communication between the two enemies.
"Who did this miracle? Perhaps it was Francois Hollande, who initiated the meeting between the two leaders at the Elysee Palace," the diplomat said, stressing that Hollande tried to diversify the issues discussed by the Presidents not to dwell on the painful subject of the Karabakh conflict.
Nevertheless, emphasizes Le Monde, the result of the meeting was small. "We cannot see a solution to the conflict. The only achievement was an agreement on the next meeting in Mew York in September 2015," the article says.
Above all, the ambience of Hollande was very pleased with the fact that France has strengthened its position in the territory under the influence of Russia. "However, these countries seek rapprochement with Europe. Therefore, the motto of Paris is not to force them to choose between Russia and the EU, as it was in the case of Ukraine, in order to avoid a repetition of the events. This is not about the severance of relations with Russia. We do not want to get trapped," said the French diplomat. -02D-
