Baku / 15.05.17 / Turan: Following the results of the first two days of the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, it can be concluded that the tournament will become one of the most expensive for the hosts.
The reason for this is unreasonably high premium for athletes representing Azerbaijan. As of May 14, Azerbaijan should pay its athletes and their coaches already 8 million 115 thousand manats.
Earlier, the authorities promised 100,000 manats for each gold medal, and 50,000 manats for the personal trainer of the winner.
In addition, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) has established bonuses of 50,000 manats for the winner of the Games and 25,000 manats for his coach.
The silver medalist will receive 50,000 manats, and the coach - 25,000 manats (from the NOC - 30,000 manats and 15,000 manats, respectively).
For the third place the bronze medalist will get 30 thousand manats and his coach will get 15 thousand manats (from the NOC 20,000 manats and 10,000 manats respectively).
For two days of the Islamic Games, Azerbaijani athletes as a whole won 50 medals - 24 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals.
It is not clear the logic of these high premiums for a tournament low-ranking in the world scale. One can count athletes with a high world rating among the participants on the fingers of one hand.
The rating of any tournament is determined by the records established there in different sports. However, no one expects any European record, or even a record of Africa or Asia, from the Islamic Games.
Even the first ever European Games that were held in Baku in 2015 were rated higher than the current Islamic Games because the athletes could win licenses for the Olympics there. -71D-

November 8 is celebrated as Victory Day in Azerbaijan. In 2020, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity through a 44-day war and a one-day military operation in 2023. Although a ceasefire declaration was signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan has yet to be signed, even four years later.
