Emil Mammadov is arrested for three months
Salyan regional court chose preventive measure arrest for three months against Emil Mammadov, the head of a local NGO "Promoting Democracy," Turan was told by his brother Igrar Mammadov. According to him, Mammadov is accused of extortion . However, activist denies allegations and found them politically motivated .
Mammadov refused a state lawyer. E.Mammadov is not allowed to meet with relatives; he was detained on May 13 at 17:00.
In turn , head of the press service of the Interior Ministry, Orkhan Mansurzade, confirmed that Mamedov was detained as a suspect in the extortion of money. According to him, before was arrested the employee of the NGO "Promoting Democracy" Tofig Gasimov on the basis of the complaints against him received by local police against him.
Thus, responsible representatives of some regional government agencies announced that Gasimov repeatedly extorted money from them under the threat of defamatory material about them. In fact it was a criminal case under the Article182.2.2 (extortion by threats ) and for Gasimov was remanded arrest.
He "confessed" the investigators that he did it on behalf of Mammadov. In this regard, Mamedov was summoned to the police and detained as a suspect.
Mamedov himself immediately after his arrest Gasimov April 4 on charges of hooliganism for 10 days said that a criminal case falsified Salyan district leadership for exposing corruption in their area.
Previously, on April 17 , was arrested for two months on charges of extortion another NGO activist "Promoting Democracy", Tofig Gasimov . Under pressure , he slandered Mamedov that allegedly at the instructions of the head of the NGO he extorted money from the heads of district departments in exchange for not publishing on the Internet compromising materials .
Previously Mamedov said that a lawsuit was concocted by the Salyan district leadership for exposing corruption in their area.
* NGOs "Promoting Democracy" is one of the most active civil society institutions in the southern region. Its head Mammadov repeatedly publicized cases of corruption in the structures of the regional authorities , as well as defended the civil rights of local residents. This NGO was involved in several projects of the civilian control network in the mining industry, what caused severe irritation of the local authorities , who started against the activist a campaign of harassment , alleging anti-state activity.
