"Feudal relations" in the prisons of Azerbaijan
Public Alliance "Azerbaijan without political prisoners" held a hearing on the situation in the prisons of Azerbaijan, and the last order of the President for clemency. The head of the Alliance Oktay Gyulalyev focused on the murder of Elshad Babayev on December 22 as a result of torture in jail N14.
He regarded it as an act of barbarism, noting that a similar fate may expect every citizen of the country.
According to the PFPA Deputy Chairman, Sahib Kerimli, currently prisoners are treated like during feudal period. The responsibility for this lies with the murder of Prison Service, said Kerimli.
The participants of the discussions expressed the attitude to the latest act of clemency, and called them "half-hearted" and "a manipulation by the authorities on the eve of the PACE winter session."
The decree on Pardon does not solve the problem of political prisoners, the vast majority of whom remain in custody. The Alliance called on the authorities to stop the repression and release political prisoners.-05C-
