Media Review for September 20, 2018
A century of the Azerbaijani parliament, the situation in the country's banks, and "fake" chicken meat are the themes of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the century of the Azerbaijani parliament. On May 28, 1918 the Declaration of Independence was declared. One of the main issues of the Declaration was the creation of the parliament. On December 7, 1918 the parliament held a meeting with 120 MPs. A total of 145 meetings were held, and 15 meetings were not held, because there was no quota.
The parliament discussed 270 bills, 230 of which were adopted. After 17 months of activity, the parliament, as a result of the occupation of the country by the Bolsheviks, ceased its activities.
The newspaper Novoye Vremya writes about banks and their profitability. The capitalization of banks in Azerbaijan has long left much to be desired.
Banks necessarily need additional capitalization, but the state cannot provide the sufficient financial assistance. However the International Bank of Azerbaijan was recently provided assistance of about $ 3 billion.
In European countries, interest on loans is 3-4%, but the European banks flourish. In Azerbaijan, loans are issued at 28-30%, but the local banks are poorer.
The Yeni Musavat newspaper writes about the falsification of so-called "village chickens" sold in markets and in stores. Profiteers just decorate the chickens with yellow food paint.
Such chickens are produced by two enterprises in the settlement of Masazir on the outskirts of Baku. Experts say that in fact, there are more than 30 such enterprises. In the settlements surrounding Baku such broiler chickens are produced in unsanitary conditions and then exhibited for sale.
