Ankara Condemns US Senate for Genocide Resolution
Baku / 13.12.19 / Turan: The resolution of the US Senate on the recognition of the so-called “Armenian genocide” has no legal force and will not affect Ankara’s position on any issues. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Turkey, Ibrahim Kalyn, commenting on the resolution adopted on December 12.
Kalyn emphasized that in Ankara "they strongly condemn and reject the resolution of the US Senate." The spokesman for the Turkish leader added that the “distorted perception of history” by the US Senate turned it into an instrument for achieving political goals.
The document was proposed by Democratic Senator Robert Menendez and Republican Ted Cruz.
Senate resolutions do not have the force of law and are advisory in nature. Earlier, the United States House of Representatives adopted a similar resolution.
At the same time, Congressmen and Senators noted that the adoption of the resolution is largely connected with the anti-American policy of the Turkish President. Erdogan did everything to quarrel with the US. The resolutions were a response to his behavior, sources in Washington D.C. say. -02D-
