Condolences of Foreign Diplomats in Connection with Black January (Video)
Baku / 20.01.20 / Turan: The heads of foreign diplomatic missions in Azerbaijan expressed condolences to the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the tragic January events of 1990.
British Ambassador James Sharp in a video appeal on Twitter in particular, said:
“For 30 years now, the Azerbaijani people have respectfully remembered the victims of Bloody January.”
January martyrs played a special role in achieving independence of Azerbaijan. On behalf of the Government of Great Britain and on my own behalf, I express my deepest condolences to the people of Azerbaijan and the families of martyrs. The memory of those who gave their lives in this tragedy will forever remain in our hearts.”
Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan George Deek, after visiting the Martyrs' Alley, wrote on Twitter:
“Today #Azerbaijan marks 30yrs to the tragedy of 20 January 1990, when 147 innocent victims paid the ultimate price for their nation’s independence. On behalf of #Israel, I paid respect today to the President and people of Azerbaijan at the Alley of Martyrs in Baku. #blackjanuary ”
French Ambassador Zachary Gross also expressed his condolences on the anniversary of the tragic events.
“It was an honor for me to attend the commemoration ceremony of the victims of the popular uprising for independence 30 years ago, which was suppressed by Soviet repressions. Condolences to the families of the victims,” he wrote on Twitter.
Denis Daniilidis, deputy head of the EU mission, says on his Facebook page: “The mourning of our friends is our mourning. There is no excuse for violence. On this sad day, we are standing next to our Azerbaijani friends.”
Ambassadors of several other countries also published condolences on social networks on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Black January and paid tribute to those who died in the struggle for independence of Azerbaijan. –16B06-

On November 28, the Tbilisi City Court ruled to extradite Afgan Sadigov, the head of the website Azel.TV, to Azerbaijan. This was reported by his wife Sevinj Sadigova. The defense will appeal the court's decision.

On November 27, an online hearing took place at the Khatai District Court regarding a petition from the defense for the release of Alaskar Mammadli, the founder of Toplum TV, under house arrest. Mammadli has been in custody at Baku’s Detention Center No. 1. The court denied the petition, Mammadli's brother, Nasimi Mammadli.

On November 28, another hearing took place in the case of public activist Ilhamiz Guliyev. During the proceedings, the court reviewed a response from the 28th Police Station of the Yasamal District in Baku. At the previous hearing, the defense had requested that the court obtain footage from the surveillance cameras at this police station, where Guliyev was taken on December 4 of last year. However, the police response stated that the video footage had not been preserved.
