Decision on Ilgar Mammadov Case Postponed?
Baku / 22.12.17 / Turan: The European Court of Human Rights sent a letter to the government of Azerbaijan and the defense of Ilgar Mammadov.
It says that the composition of the Grand Chamber has been appointed under the chairmanship of Judge Guido Raimondi, who will consider Baku's response regarding the implementation of the ECHR decision in the case of Ilgar Mammadov.
Until March 1, 2018, the parties can submit their written comments to the ECHR.
This was written on Friday on his Facebook page by Ilgar Mammadov"s lawyer, Fuad Agayev.
Thus, the government of Azerbaijan has once again been given time to decide on the release of Ilgar Mammadov without imposing sanctions on the part of the Council of Europe.
* Ilgar Mammadov, the most famous political prisoner of Azerbaijan, the leader of the REAL movement, was arrested and sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment on falsified charges of organizing riots in the town of Ismayilli in January 2013.
The international community recognized him as a political prisoner.
The European Court of Human Rights twice decided on the injustice of his conviction, but Baku ignored these decisions. After that, the Council of Europe launched a mechanism for imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan. -02D-
