Representatives of the ICRC visit Bashir Suleymanli
Representatives of the Baku Office of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) visited Bashir Suleymanli, Executive Director of the Election Monitoring and Democracy Studies Center (EMDSC) who is kept in the Baku prison, Turan was told by Suleymanli’s relatives.
During the meeting, Bashir Suleymanli compained of the violation of his right to meet with his relatives. Thus, the meetings with relatives are very rare, and through a glass partition.
At the same time, relatives wait for several hours to meet with Suleymanli.
According to the Article 19.6 of the Law "On the rights and freedoms of persons in detention," the prisoner has a right to meet four times for four hours with relatives.
* On 26 May the head of the EMDSC, Anar Mammadov, was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison, and Bashir Suleymanli 3.5 years. The head of the Public Association for International Cooperation of Volunteers, Elnur Mammadov, was conditionally sentenced for the same period. They were found guilty of tax evasion, illegal business, misappropriation, etc. According to human rights defenders, the true reason for their prosecution is the conclusion of rigged presidential elections in Azerbaijan in October 2013. -06D06-
