On the afternoon of July 28, Azer Gasimly again tried to cross the border in the direction of Georgia. Around 11.30 (10.30) Gasimly was released from the border checkpoint.
A representative of the State Security Service told him that a misunderstanding had occurred, there was no ban on leaving, and Gasimly could cross the border.
However, the politician said that he did not have a goal of departure, and he just wanted to check whether the ban was lifted.
Gasimly believes that the detention was not a "mistake" and perhaps pursued the goal of some kind of warning. After some time, to check the lifting of the ban, he plans to make another attempt to cross the border. -0-
Azer Gasimly Detained
Baku / 07.28.19 / Turan: In the morning of July 28, the chairman of the Majlis of the REAL party Azer Gasimly was detained on the border with Georgia.
This was reported to Turan by Gasimly himself, according to whom, the purpose of his trip to Georgia was to check whether the Nasimi court"s decision to lift the ban on his leaving the country imposed by the General Prosecutor"s Office was being fulfilled.
Gasimly said that during passport control, he had been announced that the prohibition imposed by the prosecutor"s office had been lifted 5 days ago. However, a new ban was imposed, this time by the country's State Security Service (SSS). "I don"t know the reasons for this. I"m detained and now I"m waiting for the representative of the State Security Service. Only then will everything become clear," Gasimly said.
Recall that on July 12, by a decision of the Nasimi district court, the ban on Gasimly's leaving the country was lifted. The prosecutor's office motivated the ban by some kind of criminal case in which the name Gasimly allegedly appeared.
In December 2018, the ECtHR granted a complaint by Gasimly regarding the ban on foreign travel.
But until today, the decision of the ECtHR has not been implemented. -21B--
