Baku/26.11.13/Turan : Election Monitoring and Democratic Studies Center (EMDS) made a statement calling on the authorities to stop the pressure on this NGO .
The statement of this social structure reads that a lawsuit against the EMDS and its partner, the Association of Volunteers for International Cooperation started a month ago; and the activity of both NGOs has been virtually paralyzed.
The NGO workers have been repeatedly summoned to testify before the prosecutor's office, but the investigation can not clearly explain the nature and meaning of the investigation. Investigation of the activity of this NGO monitoring the elections is unacceptable , because it is a restriction of freedom of expression and the right to choose.
Therefore the authors of the statement called on the authorities to stop the administrative pressure on the structure covering elections, and to ensure their political rights.
The pressure on the EMDS began immediately after the presidential elections on October 9.
This NGO made a number of publications on numerous violations during the elections, and proved that the elections were undemocratic .
On October 31 prosecutors raided the office of the EMDS and seized all documents and computers. After that, the EMDS was charged with evasion of taxes, illegal entrepreneurship and abuse of power. Leadership NGOs is banned to leave the country. -16D-
