Emin Huseynov: Mehman continues hunger strike
Baku /19.01.19/ Turan: Mehman Huseynov, brother of Emin Huseynov, the Director of the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS), who is in political emigration abroad, said that on January 18, lawyers visited Mehman for the first time over the last 10 days. They said that Mehman takes only liquid dairy products. He looked exhausted. His request to transfer his to the medical unit is not met. The doctor who examined him since December 29 and told about his serious health was removed on the eve of the visit of the delegation of the European Union on January 11, and another doctor was present at this meeting.
Mehman complained that he is subjected to pressure so that to end his hunger strike, and denied all the statements made on his behalf. He said that he wanted to be transferred to a medical unit, or a punishment cell, because in the cell others prisoners eat and this makes him even more sick from the smells of food.
The blogger asked no one to visit or take a photo with him, and if foreign diplomats visit, let them come with foreign doctors. He does not trust the new local doctor, said Emin Huseynov.
The IRFS, in turn, together with partner international human rights organizations intend to ask the head of the European Commission, Jean Claude Juncker, and High Representative for External Relations Frederick Mogherini to conduct an internal investigation into the European Commissioner"s misinforming the European Parliament that Mehman stopped the hunger strike.
Emin Huseynov expressed surprise that the EU delegation pointed out that Mehman was under the supervision of doctors, while he was not transferred to the medical unit and was not even isolated from other prisoners, and the doctor who gave an opinion on his serious health was removed. -- 0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
