Media review for February 15

The country's Internet resources give preference to the theme of the February 9 elections, their results, comments, and also social problems.

The site “Moderator.az” is looking for an answer to the question about the large number of registered candidates for deputies. So, the chairman of the Popular Front Party of United Azerbaijan, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, believes that the level of elections is related to the index of social development of the country's people. Therefore, it is absurd to expect Azerbaijan to hold elections with a European level.

The offenses that occurred during the election are the flaws of the majority system, said Hasanguliyev. According to him, many random people enter the fight for the parliamentary mandate and even get it in the end. He considers it necessary to introduce a proportional system.

The site “Azadlıq.info.az” writes about the protest of voters against MPs who have been in the parliament for several years. Voters also protested after being re-elected. As a result, the CEC annulled the election results in four constituencies. As for violations during the voting and low voter turnout, it did not reach 20%. The author believes that this should not be about canceling the results of several constituencies, but that the results of the elections as a whole should be canceled.

The official newspaper “Azerbaijan”,  believes that the elections have become an expression of the will of the people, calling them an indicator of democratic development. The newspaper recalls a high assessment of the election results by most international observers. As for irregularities during the elections, in no country in the world do elections take place without errors.

The site “Müsavat.com” deals with the topic of currency exchange offices that have not been working since March 2016. Expert Natik Jafarli believes that closing exchange points was a wrong move, as it opened the way for the black market. As for the conditions for opening exchange offices, the owner should have a capital of 100 thousand manats, as well as put a deposit in the amount of 50 thousand manats.

The site “Redaktor.az” writes about problems with electricity in the village of Guzdek of the Absheron region. Every evening for 4-5 hours, the lights in the village are turned off, which complicates the living conditions of residents. Azerishig explains this with a strong wind, insufficient electric lines for the interruption supply of electricity to the village.
