Imprisoned Opposition Activist Undergoes Surgical Operation on Eye
Baku / 05.08.18 / Turan: The authorities have finally reacted to the appeals about the need to render medical aid to the imprisoned adviser to the head of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), Mammad Ibrahim, who practically lost his eyesight.
The opposition activists suffering glaucoma was operated at the Institute of Eye Diseases named after Academician Zarifa Aliyeva on August 4.
"Our father was operated on his right eye. The operation lasted an hour and a half. The bandage will be removed tomorrow (August 5). However, the doctors said Dad would not see for another week. By the end of this period his eyesight should be restored," T. Ibrahim said.
After the operation M. Ibrahim was taken back to the Medical Institution of the Ministry of Justice.
Mammad Ibrahim has been imprisoned for 2 years and 10 months on charges of hooliganism. Until the end of his term there is two months left. He rejected the accusations and called them politically motivated. Human rights activists recognize him as a political prisoner. -06D--
