Ailysli calls Prosecutor General to stop criminal case
Baku / 19.09.18 / Turan: Writer Akram Ailysli appealed to the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov with an open letter, because the Prosecutor General's Office did not answer to his written appeal through the lawyer Elchin Sadikhov. The letter states that in March 2016 at the airport , without any grounds the writer was not allowed to fly to the International Literary Forum in Venice. A lawsuit was filed against Ailysli and sent to the prosecutor's office.
The writer notes that two years have passed since he was deprived of the right to leave the country. Even in the country, he has no legal right to move freely. The identity card is in the prosecutor's office, and he faces a number of domestic problems.
I am 81 years old, Mr. Attorney General! At this age one can hardly boast own health, unfortunately, rarely succeeds. Over the years, I suffer from acute chronic bronchitis, cardiac and hepatic insufficiency. The ban on leaving the country does not allow me to go to any country for treatment, and especially in the summer months, when diseases worsen, writes Alysli.
The core of Azerbaijani prose considers it necessary to disclose the secret motives of this absurd "criminal case" in which there are no reasonable facts of the crime: "If you spend time familiarizing yourself with the case at the Baku Prosecutor's Office, you will see for yourself that the accusations and testimonies are unfounded, illogical and empty employees of the border guard service, to the airport police department. "
Taking into account my age, my health, lack of objective legal base of the criminal case against me, I ask you to take effective steps to stop the criminal case, concludes the letter of Akram Ailisi.

My brother Jahangir Hajiyev has been in prison for eight and a half years, having a bouquet of severe chronic diseases. For eight years we have been trying to get the penitentiary service to provide him with minimal medical care and medical supervision. During these years he has repeatedly had exacerbations of his heart, blood pressure, hypertensive crises, exacerbations of his hormonal and immune systems, and pancreatic attacks. One time he was even called for an ambulance. Despite our repeated appeals, he is denied transfer to the central medical centre and the sanitary unit in the colony itself.

Azerbaijan has spent much of the past half-year thumbing its nose at the United States and European Union over Western criticism of Baku’s authoritarian political practices. But it appears the West has at least one weapon in its arsenal capable of getting Azerbaijani leaders’ attention.
